moleskine

My favourite thing to draw is contours of naked girls. Everything else is so difficult and unappealing...

photos

I haven't done a proper picture post in a while. Here are some I found.

This was last day of school, we all dressed up. I shot this and the one below with the Olympus Trip. It really only works in good daylight. I love how bad this photo is. Everyone is making a face in a different direction except for Alana. hahaha

Can you guess who we are? hint: we are all characters who begin with Ma____

Super cute dresses worn at valedictory lunch.

Taken at the opening of the IB graduate exhibition. Who said Asian kids can't be arty and alternative?

Jayne scanned this old roll from her Lomolitos. I took this one of a patch of pretty leaves. Flash photography is in.

I can't take nice photos. I'm either fake smiling or doing something weird.

I can't wait 'till exams are over, I've currently got an eye on some 120 film (in bulk!) on ebay.

西游记主题曲

This was my favourite show back when I was in kinder (no, they didn't have Sesame Street in China). I remember watching it with my great grandmother, and me not really understanding what was happening because I was too young, and she just couldn't hear what they were saying because she was too old. It was good bonding time none-the-less. I'd forgotten how amazing the theme song was, but I found it just then on youtube, and thought a song with an opening as good as this is definitely worth sharing. The series was based on the Chinese novel Journey to the West by the way.

Did anyone else used to watch this show??? I'm doubtful, but it's worth a try...

surprise package

Just a little while ago my mum came home and asked me why I had a package from New York. For a moment I was thinking "Did I accidentally apply for a University in New York?", but then I remembered - it's my prize from the photo contest I entered back in June!

I love receiving packages. I used to get mail from my Swedish penpal, but eversince we started embracing this digital age, it's just been emails and msn. Now the only times I receive packages is when I buy off ebay, which isn't very frequently. Admittedly, this package would have to be one of my favourites since it's sent from Brooklyn NY! (One of the many places where I hope to live one day)

So I opened the envelope and there was this little sweet smelling parcel inside. Keiko, the girl who held the competition, had also included a little packet of candy. awww

And this is my prize - a custom made top. I'm so glad that it fits perfectly, considering I had given her some rather dodgey measurements, though I slightly regret picking such serious colours. Now I want to buy more of her clothes in brighter colours, but unfortunately my bank account seems to be quite comfortable sitting at a grand sum of $6.50.

For those of you who aren't as desparately broke as me, please go visit her clothing site Postlapsaria and support the little people. It might be a little more expensive than chainstores, but consider that each item is uniquely handmade by a very cute Brooklyn girl with a cool name.

where i end and you begin

Before, I was feeling depressed about leaving highschool. But I think it's time. Few things are as exciting as not knowing what you'll be doing nor where you'll be living in a year's time. I like that I get to start over again, a whole new crowd, a whole a new environment, a whole new ritual...it's good.

hermit

I think one day, when everything is done and dusted, I would like to live somewhere like this. Sometimes I'm almost ashamed of how bad I am at interacting with others. I don't think it's because I'm a cold person, I just don't seem to understand those superficial nuances of human behaviour. I think I am most happy when I'm alone, it's so much easier to please just yourself.

when i find myself in times of trouble

....I look at this picture, and wonder if this guy has any idea how happy he makes me.

I don't even want to know why. Please click on it to see it bigger and admire the bulldog clip at the waist of his pants.

Sometimes it's so hard to articulate myself. And I just get lazy and don't bother, because it always sounds so petty when it's put into words, and nobody will care. boohooo

mary poppins

I don't know about you but I used to watch the same videos every weekend when I was a kid. Aristocats, Lion King and Mary Poppins in rotation, e-v-e-r-y Saturday. I have no idea what my mum thought, probably grateful that I was saving her money by never wanting to watch anything else or do anything else for that matter. Anyway, on the last day of school, we have to dress up as something/someone beginning with M, L or C. After much dissuasion from friends, I finally gave up on the idea of buying a rice paper lantern from IKEA and shoving it over my body. Now I'm going to be Mary Poppins!

My bottomless pit of a closet somehow accommodates most costumes which I can think of, and sure enough I had everything I needed to be Mary Poppins, except for the hat. Alana and I went for a walk to the nearest costume shop to see what they had, and the lady procured this plastic midget boater hat with some wizened grime on it. Thanks but no thanks. So I came home and decided to make my own!

The real deal.

My own cardboard, spare fabric, electrical tape and clag glue concoction. Pity I didn't have any black velour-ish material, only navy. Not bad though for some who hates cutting cardboard and can't sew to save her life, right? Right. I just need to pick some flowers and jab them in now.

So that was my day. The rest was doing chem papers and drinking coke with lots of ice. The weather is getting hot.

heads

By the way, I finally found where I had saved the photos of my school artwork. This is one of my pieces:

Ceramic heads individually sculpted and handpainted, mounted onto wooden plaques I bought at a craft store. The plaques are about 30cm x 20cm each. These were so fun to make, and a break from all the photography and painting I'm usually obsessing over!

moving on

I haven't had my final exams yet, but last night was "Celebration Evening" which is a premature graduation in a sense. And then this morning I received an email from a college I applied to informing me that I have been invited for an interview. It's scary to think that I am almost not-a-highschool-student and that everything which I take so seriously right now will soon be a thing of the past.
I hate that certain experiences are exclusive to a certain age, it leaves me with lingering feelings of regret eventhough I can't imagine why. Well, actually, I can think of a few things...

new toy

Sunday I went to the market with mum and she bought me a new camera! It's an Olympus Trip 35, and didn't cost much. I've never used a rangefinder before, but this one looks easy enough. Also, the previous owner told me she still has a half-finished roll of film from two years ago in the camera, so it'll be interesting to develop them and see what sort of shenanigans she had been up to.

Yay!

PS: I think my art exam went swell, it was so satisfying to see all my work before me. I might post some photos of my display and my final pieces once I remember where I saved them...in the meantime I should study for my 5 other subjects. BUT. 1 month from now, I shall be free as a bird. I should start researching if bonfire's are allowed in suburban backyards; I am determined to set one up so that I can dance around it as I burn all my books and watch a better more exciting future be born through the ashes of what was once highschool. Speaking of highschool, I watched "Welcome to the Dollhouse" over the weekend again. It's my new favourite guilty pleasure.

circadian rhythm

I finally finished it! I had a lot of problem with the softwares I was using. Seriously, I hate technology.

Tomorrow I have my art exam, wish me luck :)

welcome to the dollhouse

"Yo Weiner, you better get ready, 'cause at three o' clock today, I'm gonna RAPE you!"

I think I rofled for five minutes straight when 13 year old Brandon threatens this to 13 year old Dawn. But even better, when he takes Dawn to an abandoned house and Dawn asks if he's still going to rape her, he decides he doesn't have time if her parents want her to be home by 4:30. Disturbing, but strangely endearing.

And you've gotta love the 90s plaid shirts and cropped tops.

cult of boys

I am in love with these videos by Toyin Ibidapo. Part of her series called "Cult of Boys".

More on her youtube channel.

I sort of miss the days when this blog was just bad photos of my friends eating and being losers.
