wither must i wander

I like taking photos. I think everyone that knows of my existence knows that now. Actually, even those who don't know of my existence but saw my photo on some random site because someone posted my work there without my permission(I'm not complaining) can get the gist that the person who took the photo(me) likes to take photos.

I do not like mounting my photos. Today I got some very big cardboard and decided to attack it with a stanley knife so I could mount my photography for the exhibition. I used a ruler and a pencil and long division to make sure my calculations were meticulously precise before scratching into the cardboard. "Ok, I want nine 193.5mm x 124.5mm windows cut into these three 30cm x 100cm pieces of cardboard. 10cm from each end length ways and 87.5mm from each end width ways". I made sure the corners were right angles.

fast forward 50minutes

My white cardboard had black fingerprints on them because my hands were dirty from the ink which had spilled out of my pen during maths. My cardboard had 2 windows in them. Each with a prime number of cuts randomly hacked around the edge in an almost purposeful looking manner because there were so many. My arm is shaking like it's holding a polaroid picture and my nose inches away from the stanley knife. I am angry that I just cut 203.5mm instead of 193.5mm. My teacher takes a glance at my handiwork and gives me a sad look.

The thumb and forefinger on my right hand is still tingling eventhough it's been over 3 hours since I was using the stanley knife. And the worst part is, after consoling me for a while my teacher convinced me that although I was showing great feminist integrity in trying to mount something myself, I should now just give Jeff or Paul the measurements and let him do it. They can even do fancy 45 degree beveling.

Now that the rant is over, I'm going to share some nice things.

Crazy Yves Klein. And ofcourse, a moment after the photo was taken, he landed on the ground.

Works by a new artist I discovered Peter Callesen

He's a little bit amazing

I kind of wonder whether the expression is real

Kate Moss by Ryan McGinley

Nice painting of nice lady with nice butt.

Bonnie and Clyde <33 Did I mention that I at times wish I was American and had a boyfriend so that for Halloween I could be Bonnie and he could be Clyde?

I like random blog entries.

Cheers,

Sunni

kawaii

Much of what I do would make my parents squirm. Yesterday is a great example; I went to model for Katelyn's sister Cecilia's photoshoot as a 'harajuku girl' (inverted commas because I am leagues away from looking like one and i probably just looked like i was going trick or treating than anything else..but I'm sure the photoshoot turned out ok...) My grandpa(the cute one. actually the mean one aswell) would probably disown me or at least give me the cool shoulder for the rest of my life if he knew that I was pretending to be Japanese. I don't want to get all political here but I sort of understand why the majority of Asian countries hate the Japanese..

Anyway, moving on.

It was embarrassingly fun. You see, Katelyn basically tried to recruit as many Asian friends as she could, but none of the kawaii anime watching hello kitty loving girls wanted to do it. So it was just me, Mich, Kim and Dianne. A Chinese girl who people think looks like a boy and 3 white washed Vietnamese girls. We did our best.

This is before her extreme makeover.

Katelyn has 3 older sisters. So 4 girls between the ages 17-25. That amounted to the smorgasboard of dress up clothes. We were truly spoiled for choice.

Before long we were pretty comfortable in our new skin.

ehehe I made Katelyn take two shots of us like that. It's currently my desktop picture, I love the yellow wig I am wearing.

A pro studio and all. Very serious shooting of very silly models. I feel like a noob. And Michelle looks like a knob.

Michelle and Kim were flipping through some Japanese streetstyle books for inspiration.

Mich settled for commie pirate.

..and Kim tried to be a neon flower child. I don't know what I was...some sort of a technicolour schoolboy on holiday I guess.

Meanwhile Katelyn(who was an asian-wannabe back in year 9) was missing out big time. She's only pretending to be happy here.

All she really feels is longing and sadness.

We had 4 costume changes. She looks a bit fed up, but really it's just an illusion the glasses give.

This outfit is my creation. The orange top was just some stockings with a hole cut in the groin area(that sounds strangely S&M like).

Noodles.

And finally, the compulsary 'I am too hot for my leopard print Kyle from Southpark hat' shot.

Ok, and just one last shot of me in the joker hat.

I am more than a little excited to see Cecilia's photos. fjkdafdsa.

Hope you all did something fun this weekend.

once - 'falling slowly' glen hansard f/ marketa iglova

I am feeling mellow like I'm walking through a meadow and the sun is shining yellow and I can hear a cello. I am saying 'hello'.

I don't know you
But I want you
All the more for that
Words fall through me
And always fool me
And I can't react
And games that never amount
To more than they're meant
Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you have a choice
You've made it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me
And I can't go back
Moods that take me and erase me
And I'm painted black
You have suffered enough
And warred with yourself
It's time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now

Take this sinking boat and point it home
We've still got time
Raise your hopeful voice you had a choice
You've made it now
Falling slowly sing your melody
I'll sing along

On Saturday we planted A LOT of teeny tiny little punnets of flowers in our garden. And then today, when dad came home, he was all excited and told us that our little flowerbed had bloomed its first flower. I was dorkishly proud so I grabbed my camera to commemorate the occasion. It wasn't until I was sprawled across our front lawn smiling did I realise I was still wearing my dressing gown with my black lace up school shoes on as flocks of late afternoon joggers/cyclists were passing my house and staring. Oh well. My dad has suddenly sprouted 10 green thumbs aswell. He has spent every night for the past fortnight watering the garden. Incase you're now flaming at my dad for completely disregarding stage 3 water restrictions, let me assure you that we have a water tank now and dad salvages whatever water we use. We have buckets of dirty water everywhere in the house now.

So, today school started. I am that girl blowing gum, except I can't chew gum because I have braces now. Anyway. I am trying to concentrate seeing as exams are in 4 weeks and I NEED good results to suffice my lack of social life. Perhaps our newly bloomed little flower is symbolic of...new beginnings? God I hope not. It would be as cheesy as a Delta Goodgrem song.

Ok I will work more on my TOK oral and chemistry revision now. Hello lack of sleep, we meet again!

Ciao ~

your personal moon

I have more ethereal space related things to share. Ok, this one's not an actual natural phenomena, but none the less, it is beautiful and has left me rather sappy again.

Your Personal Moon

"Some Russian designers have started a production of a big, moon-shaped light-box calling this project Your Personal Moon. Now anyone can get his own moon right in his apartment or his backyard."

Impractical and superfluous, but oh so pretty and desirable. I want one.

In other news, school starts next Monday, and I am not prepared. If you refer to this blog entry, you will see that I like to complain a lot(there could be a fullstop right here) about the way time is divided into segments. It makes life full of urgency, and I'm not an always-up-to-date person. I think I lack will power. Infact, I lack it so much that I diagnose myself with the rare mental disease called Chronic Secondary School Onset Will Power Deficiency Syndrome (CSSOWPDS for short...though even that is not so short). Basically it makes my will power deteriorate and the progressive nature of the disease means the severity increases with time. In short I'm fucked.

The only thing I've been really getting into recently is the bag of goodies my orthodontist gave me. It comes with a special soft bristle toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste for sensitive teeth, a tiny xmas tree shaped brush with extra refill brushes(yea, probably my favourite item), two packs of squishy wax to prevent ulcers and a braces handbook which tells me what I can't eat and other tips like "no unnatural tongue thrusts" (I'm not sure if that's an innuendo there...what else can it imply..?).

On Wednesday Michelle, Yue, Kim, Alana and I went to see December Boys. Actually, we went to see Stardust but it was canceled so we were forced to see Daniel Radcliffe's nice hairy legs instead. Very nice. We stayed at Michelle's house for the night and watched stupid movies.

It was the first time I'd seen Michelle without eye make up in....6 months. She was contemplating whether or not to do it at the station.

We were mocking her and kept jabbing her with the eyeliner. BFF!

Michelle wanted to take a photo with my big ugly camera. I'm staring at her seriously because I'm pretty sure she doesn't know how to adjust the aperture/shutterspeed. I have so little confidence in my friends.

hmhm, I liked this one.

Alana on the 6:08pm Flinders St. train stopping all stations.

I still haven't gotten over my long exposure + flash phase. *dork*

If you saw "Once" you would understand this. (it says hoover)

After the movie we had a late dinner.

As you can see, a lot of interesting discussion about Daniel Radcliffe's nice legs.

Discussion changed to the topic of House. The first episode of the 4th season of House was on TV as we spoke, but luckily Yue had already downloaded that episode and watched it(trust). She went on to re-tell the entire episode, something she is very good at. Michelle sneakily took out her phone to time how long it would take...

"3 minutes and 15 seconds". Yue is wondering what's going on. We love her very much.

And then we trammed home.

I rather liked the colours.

And then we went home and got a bad night's sleep.

We were up at 8:30 to get breakfast.

"I really don't understand why you are taking a photo of this."

Much too cheerful. Was a good sleepover though, Mich ;)

So that was Thursday morning. I haven't done much since then. Tomorrow I think I am gardening :D

OK, wow. Very long blog entry. I infact did the laundry, some reading, went out to look at real estate with my parents, had dinner and watched TV during the time I've been blogging. I need to get a life.

Over and out,
Sunni

You know how I was saying that I was getting the appearance of my face/head changed?

Well I got a haircut.

"But, but...that's just the head part..." I hear you say! Well, I got braces too. (purple for that matter but you can't tell - I just look like any standard metal mouth)

Mum says I look like Ugly Betty now. I say I have a more dainty mouth, though you can see for yourself:

Read something interesting today:

"A simulation of Neptune's atmosphere was recently done at University of California, Berkeley - and it produced diamond dust. So, they think with all the carbon in Neptune's atmosphere and the extreme pressure on that planet that it may be, literally, raining giant diamonds."

Is that not the prettiest thing ever? Our Solar System suddenly seems so precious. That put me in a good mood for the rest of the day. So, my new scheme on how to get rich is planning an expedition to Neptune. It is definitely a worthy investment I am thinking. =P

And now I'm going to go dope up on painkillers. Caity questioned me the other day why I wasn't using separators(another painful orthodontic procedure) as an excuse to be drugged up. I wondered why myself, so now I'm going to make sure I am taking the maximum amount of Panadol recommended. And then I'm going to get a good night's sleep.

Bis bis,
Sunni

the f word - fluoro

"Look, each family is much like a team. All the families are competing against eachother, and quite frankly Sunni, you're not a very good team member. You're irresponsible and not contributing at all. Meanwhile the other families have kids who got into medicine on their team, so they will now always be winners. You are making our family a loser, Sunni. I am a loser, because you are a loser."

- Sunni's Dad.

Now I know where I get my fondness for long winded analogies from. -and also my ambiguous way of talking so that no one is ever sure whether I'm joking with a deadpan face or being nasty.

Jayne sent me something funny:

I don't really relate to it, but anything to do with Pacman gets a round of laughs from me...

Yesterday I went to the Sunday market and bought 3 pairs of these neon pink "Back to the Future" sunglasses for $1. They were free with Pizza Hut meals from i-dunno-how-long-ago-i-just-see-the-pizza-hut-logo-on-the-plastic-covering.

I thought I'd use them for some kind of space-age, robot-girl, extra-terrestrial, haute-couture -ish (that was a lot of hyphens) photoshoot later. Above blurry photos of me at 8 in the morning aren't the manifestations of that idea of mine in case you're wondering...I am actually planning this seriously and it will hopefully become the first successful shoot I do. Ilsa has already offered to be stylist and she knows someone who will do makeup ^^ I need models now. D8

Speaking of artistic experiences, I saw the film "Once" last week. If you haven't, you can't call yourself a true muso, film enthusiast or artfart. You also can't miss this if you feel like you're being serenaded every time you hear Damien Rice or if you enjoy looking at Hugh Laurie's face(yea, that last condition's a bit weird..)

I'm getting drastic things done to the appearance of my face/head tomorrow. I'm gonna miss how I look at the moment. Actually, no I'm not. I feel fat. I felt fat today when I was at the store to try on Cheap Monday jeans. Gah, people may think I don't give a damn about body image and appearance, but OH, I so do. OK, let us not linger at this thought any further. We are getting to a very sensitive girly place. I feel nekkid.

My cousin has been printing a REALLY long document on our printer for the past 20minutes. It's sorta soothing actually...If I want ambient music in an indie film that I will possibly make when I'm older, I am so incorporating this noise.

Good night children of the internet.

hello darkness my old friend

Violet was a dancing puppet with a nothing disposition.
Violet you are nothing with a nothing reputation.
Darling give us jazz, ah you are such a poppet
Oh you dancing little puppet.
Violet be a sheep now, aren't you a pretty lamb
Oh you, you nasty ewe, don't give me that look.
I am the Shepherd and you are my sheep,
So now Violet, I order you to leap!
Gimme jazz, pretty lamb and then you shall leap.
When I say steady, you'll be ready,
And when I say ready, you'll be steady,
So when I say GO! you'd better gimme
Jazz, pretty lamb then leap - GO!
What are you doing you stupid darling?
Violet don't be Violent, Violet be a sheep!
Oh my wretched little puppet be a poppet,
Or you'll cop it.
"NO!" said Violet the Violent puppet who's not my poppet
"Goodbye darkness my old friend, I wont be coming to talk with you again!"
Violet don't go! But Violet went.
Silly Violet, being Violent.
You'll come to talk with me again.
Violet, darling, you wont forget
You're my dancing puppet.
