My family doesn't celebrate christmas, and I'm in a country which doesn't get dark enough for fairy lights to show up until after 9pm. But none the less, it's hard to be bitter on a night where most of the world is being jolly, so Merry Christmas!

I made cake!

It's in santa colours. Sort of.
I also made a "season's greetings" photo of myself because I have no other photos to post (mum's computer I am using).

"Oh look a face and a Nikon lens cap"
Seeing as it's 1:40am and I can not be bothered leaving the vicinity of my bed, that picture is as creative as it's going to get. Also I don't have photoshop or paint either :O I can't even doodle on my "season's greetings" picture. Sorry to disappoint fellow (and exclusive seeing as there are so few of you) blog readers. I wont be having any posts with interesting photos of my boring life for a while because my computer is gone and it's an ass editing photos on a computer which only has "microsoft office picture manager". I am probably one of the 3 people in the entire world who have ever used that program. Bill Gates is probably going to start stalking me now for being so nice.
For those who remember, my Holga has arrived! As has my 5 rolls of 400vc portra. I can't wait to go out and take some shots. I haven't really left the house much the last 5 days, been caught up in watching Korean dramas. If you have a moment at hand, go google "Hyun Bin". He's my latest Korean infatuation, mostly because he has dimples. Ok judge me.
In the following days I look forward to:
- leaving the house
- the boxing day sales
- going to see "The Golden Compass"
- taking the Holga out for a maiden voyage
- New Years
- escaping this country before the temperature hits the high 30s
My flight to Shanghai is on the morning of New Year's Day. I hear that Shanghai now has an H&M store AND it's 4 storeys. Oh joy, it better not let me down.
Anyway, enough of this ramble. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas, or if you don't celebrate Christmas, hope you have a Merry Tuesday. And lest we forget, happy Birthday baby Jesus.
Cheers,
Sunni xo

savouring the final sweetness of being 16 - it wasn't that tasty

Something which ticks me off - time (no pun intended, though now that I've noticed it, I'm having a mini party in my head because to me there is no such thing as cheesy word play). So, being the paranoid neurotic that I am, I spent the better half of tonight wondering what I should do in these last few hours to make the most of the final moments of my final day of being 16. As usual my wondering was not very fruitful and here I am celebrating youth by blogging. "Not again Sunni!" yes again.

Because it's so late and I don't fancy much the prospect of describing every detail of my life in the past few days, I'll just spend this time being completely egocentric and self-indulgent. So this is why I'm now going to post the birthday presents I've gotten so far:

A few days ago, my cousin took me to the CD shop and told me to pick a CD or two and he'll buy them for me as a present. Good idea I said!

"Poses" by Rufus Wainwright. Favourite song on it would have to be "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" for it's cute melody and clever lyrics.

and "10000 Hz Legend" by Air.

*happy*

My friends have also finally figured out what a Holga is and where to buy one after I gave them a lot of strong hinting *cough*sending them the ebay link*cough*. So this baby is now on its way to my eagerly awaiting and ready to click at any moment index finger. I was so excited that I spent an entire night searching for cheap medium format film.

That's all I've gotten so far but I'm quite satisfied already. I am, infact..quite possibly, nonchalant about turning 17 now. It may just be an "in between year" (to quote Eric) but it's not like that will make the sky less blue or the sugar less sweet. It's time to see birthdays as a celebration of another year of being alive rather than a ticking clock. Time to switch on.

Tomorrow I'm going to be crashing at Mich's house to bake myself a birthday cake. This is perhaps part of my new "self initiative for self benefit" lifestyle. Alana will be providing the recipe so I just KNOW it will be amazing. =D We are thinking of making something chocolate and dyed metallic purple.

Because this is my entry devoted to self-indulgence, I'm going to share some doodles I've done in this little black visual diary my art teacher had given me at the beginning of this year. They're pretty small doodles, infact these images are basically life size.

Ok, it's now 11:56pm. I think I'm going to sing "I am Sixteen Going on Seventeen" now since it'll be my last chance ever to do that..

oops. It's 12:00am now.

*party*

Ok, I should get some sleep. I'll leave you all with the lyrics of "Cigarette and Chocolate Milk" then :)

Cigarettes and chocolate milk
These are just a couple of my cravings
Everything it seems I likes a little bit stronger
A little bit thicker, a little bit harmful for me

If I should buy jellybeans
Have to eat them all in just one sitting
Everything it seems I likes a little bit sweeter
A little bit fatter, a little bit harmful for me

And then theres those other things
Which for several reasons we wont mention
Everything about em is a little bit stranger, a little bit harder
A little bit deadly

Its not very smart
Tends to make one part
So brokenhearted

Sitting here remembering me
Always been a shoe made for the city
Go ahead accuse me of just singing about places
With scrappy boys faces have general run of the town

Playing with prodigal sons
Take a lot of sentimental valiums
Cant expect the world to be your raggedy andy
While running on empty you little old doll with a frown

You got to keep in the game
Retaining mystique while facing forward
I suggest a reading of lesson in tightropes
Or surfing your high hopes or adios kansas

Its not very smart
Tends to make one part
So brokenhearted

Still theres not a show on my back
Holes or a friendly intervention
Im just a little bit heiress, a little bit irish
A little bit tower of pisa
Whenever I see ya
So please be kind if Im a mess

Cigarettes and chocolate milk
Cigarettes and chocolate milk

learning to love myself more

Ok, I admit it, yesterday's entry was half ass. Just a shoddy haiku and didn't even have witty(I try) subnotes to the photos. I was in a hurry and annotating everything is getting tedious. Today I'm gonna concentrate on quality over quantity. Not many pictures, not much happening, no chronology.

ALOR. The holidays are upon us (us being most private school students in Melbourne) so not much is going on in quiet inner suburbia. I watch movies, surf the net, paint, read and go for walks in the afternoons. My destinations are simple; anywhere with humans. Being home alone is not good for my mentality (nor hygiene and diet).

A few days ago I went perambulating around the neighbourhood to visit Alana.

Cute.

We had nothing better to do than play in her dad's study room. Her dad has the weirdest things in that room; it's like going to science works and a toy museum at the same time.

Maybe it was all the sci-fi posters/books we saw in the study or maybe it's just Alana's effect on me; we ended up watching Doctor Who episodes again.

When Megan came home from school she squealed when she noticed what we were watching. She thinks she's the biggest fan of Dr. Who but obviously, her dad is more fanatical (since 1960s) he is, afterall, the one that buys all the DVDs..

Maddy + afternoon light in B&W looks good.

We were reading this astrology book.

I can't help wondering whether writers of these books make sure they're writing the same thing as to not contradict eachother or do they make up original ideas...how are we readers meant to decide which book to buy? The one that's like all the others (so it has credibility) or something unique and refreshing? Anyway, who cares. I like those books either way because they never say anything bad about you. Sagittarians (like myself and Maddy) are apparently free spirited, courageous, creative, spontaneous, confident AND good in bed. No, there is nothing we don't excel in.

Speaking of books:

I bought a book today (this is the site for it). Short stories by Miranda July because I watched "Me and You and Everyone We Know" again this morning and fell in love with her awkward humour and pathos again. I'd been eying it at the bookstore for a while but didn't want to buy it because it was rather pricey for a paperback and I didn't know if an entire book of her quirkiness might be rather insipid by the end. Ah well, we'll see how it goes. I'm in the mood for reading so anything will do.

While on the note of Miranda July appreciation, let me share with you this website she made called "Learning to Love You More". It's probably the sweetest site I've seen in a while. Maybe I'll attempt one of the assignments some time. I think I'm just prone to anything that woman does. In the words of Anne of Green Gables "we are kindred spirits". I'm not obsessive...it's just exciting to find a female auteur who has the most beautiful curls.

Right. I think that's it for now. I'm going to go read and maybe, if you're feeling rather bored, you should go attempt one of the assignments on that site.

i am the walrus

I was reading over some of my past entries and I'm pretty sure I have bi-polar aswell as multiple personality disorder. It seems as though my mood fluctuates from HAPPY HAPPY! to dark and brooding way too often.

Well today is a HAPPY HAPPY! day. I'm done with school and have had a lot of hanging around cafes thus quite a few photos.

First it was this Japanese place called the Chocolate Buddha. Yea, don't get the name, don't ask.

Mich took these of me and Gabby being tools.

In this shot I am doing my signature "retarded stranger in the background" face.

I realised I look like a monk in that dress. It looks nicer on the hanger, oops.

Gabby wont let me photograph her properly anymore because she doesn't think I ever make her look nice.

This is Bernie eating the mint garnish on Caity's greentea ice-cream. This girl will eat anything.

We had a lot of trouble trying to split the bill.

Afterwards we moved on to another cafe for coffee and cake!

I decided I wanted photobooth pictures. We spent ages trying to find a photobooth and when we did the place smelled like ancient piss and the shots were taken without warning. They are probably the worst/most disgusting photos of me and Kim and Julie everrrr. (I have a lolli-pop in my mouth)

I think I spent Sunday cleaning the house. And then I took photos of my garden! I took these through some fabric so they're blurry and funny coloured.

We're growing tomatoes, it will be fantastic when they ripen :)

And some cliche photos of feet. Yum.

Monday I had to go to school to pick up some books and damn it, fuck my school for being so fucking big. It was pouring and my school was flooded and I had to get from one end to another.

This is a photo of a corridor at my school. Cute.

Took this one as I waited for the fucking rain to calm down. (don't know why I had my camera on me that day..)

Anyway, yea, I got soaked that day. Me and Bernie went to our favourite cafe later to have a lot of tea and hot chocolate. I was able to wait out the rain thank god.

Today. Kim and I went to see "Across the Universe"! It could've been about a couple of mountain goats grazing and we would've still loved it because it featured so many Beatles' songs (I've gotta say, mountain goats doing a cover of a Beatles' song would've been good entertainment none the less)

We were wearing out matching rings which I got at the market a while ago. Cute.

Afterwards we went to St. Kilda to meet up with others.

She gets worried everytime I point my camera in her direction.

Ok, THIS is cute. Awwwwwwww ^^

These are two flies on Michelle's back. She's been paranoid about flies since one flew into her eye last week and gave her blood shot eyes for 2 days. (it's funny to think about for me..)

We were meant to be going to the beach but I didn't even bother bringing bathers. I wasn't going to go into sea water at any temperature below 30 degrees.

Leanne bought some amazing ice-cream. heheh

It's so cute when my friends actually pose for my photo.

Afterwards Leanne went straight back to her ice-cream.

Total poser. (you should click on this and see it larger)

So. That sums up my Saturday to Tuesday. I might update this sometime soon because I have nothing to do now. My life is pretty boring. No body really wants to see photos of me and my friends eating, I know. Sorry for wasting your time, go make a cup of tea.
