miscellaneous cool things which i like

My head has been quite empty lately. No profound thoughts nor random whimsies. Just staying up late watching TV shows and movies online, getting up at noon and then wasting away the afternoons with mum watching Chinese dramas. I should probably find some way of stimulating my brain before it sublimates through my ears.

One good thing about spending this much time on the wondrous internet is that I've come upon quite a few little jems. Take these youtube videos par example:

Amazing teslar coils:

The real Electric Feel(hehe). I'm not sure if those sparks are dangerous, nor the physics behind all this, but if it's possible, I am definitely opening a club with lighting and music powered by tesla coils when I grow up.

Fembot:

I always thought there was something wrong about the development of such life-like robots. I mean, all that research is really just fueled by sexual perversion isn't it?

Bat for Lashes - "What's a Girl to Do?"

I don't know why I like this video so much. I guess because of the random creepiness and seamless execution. Reminds me of Donnie Darko come to think of it.

Human Art

...in slew of my recent rediscovery of the joys of Monkey King. Sometimes I really think the Japanese have different brains to the rest of us.

Just a small taste of what I've been up to on youtube. Seeing as I haven't left the house in two days, I have been up to a lot on youtube...

Friday though, I did leave the house to have brunch with friends. Yui gave me a belated birthday present. Guess what it is.

...if you guessed "an axolotl soft toy?" you would be right! Isn't it amazing? To reinforce my previous point, this toy was made in Japan. Yui and mine axolotl obsession have been somewhat of an ongoing joke. She even took me to a pet shop on Tuesday so that I could see a live one. I was not disappointed.

I also saw this bag at a boutique which I often frequent(but have never bought anything from). It's a reversible black leather tote from See by Chloe's new line of handbags.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it "beautiful" or "amazing", but it's really just the bag I'm looking for. It's big enough to be used for uni, but not so big that it's cumbersome. And the fact that it's reversible caters perfectly for my self-diagnosed bi-polar tendencies. It's great! It's perfect! Except for it's price($450 even on sale). Damn.

Luckily, I'm going to Hong Kong and then China in a few days. Chances are I will find something quite similar for a much lower price. Who knows...

Oh, and one last thing which made me fall off my chair.

Trust me, you'll want to read the story behind this one.

Tesla Coils. Invented by Nikola Tesla in...around the same time Thomas Edison made the light bulb. Not quite sure how it's made, but if you fire one of these in a club? you won't be able to hear anything but the crack of the lightning. Really, it's REALLY LOUD. I saw one fire in singapore :3

I feel sorry for Bill Murray actually. Hell, I feel sorry for all actors. The emotional stress would be terrible.

Revilo a dit…

The greatest applause for that is during the Mario one. And well is it deserved.

If I remember from the last time I watched that, you hear people applauding at one point, and they're drowned out by the coil. They're really quite loud.
They are also not particularly safe.
We're talking very high voltage on a thing that's making lots of sparks. And there'd always be an idiot who'd want to play with it when they're doped up. Especially if they start fucking with the primary circuit. Then they're seriously screwed.

So swearing counts as humanity?
Perversion indeed, they end with a shot of her skirt.

That is a really cool clip. Especially considering it's one take, and I hardly even noticed the guys riding behind before they came out (apart from the mist from the breath and the extra long shadow).
A really excellent clip.
*goes to watch again*
The best execution in the entire thing is the start, which I guess it the most important one.
The pink tiger isn't as competent as the rest.

...the monkey king wasn't Japanese!
And it's even weirder when you hear what they're saying...
...it's quite cool though.

As for Bill Murray...he's always been like that. He lives for being completely random. That's why the story;
"Then again, perhaps he's just toying with us all. There's an urban legend that's gone round until no one is sure who it happened to, or if it happened at all. It was late one night, a few years ago, when a young man was walking through Union Square Park. He suddenly felt someone behind him, their hands over his eyes. When he turned in surprise, there was Bill Murray, his creased face leaning in close. Bill whispered, "No one is ever going to believe you," and then just walked away." is so believable, whether it's true or not.

Personally I'd be stoked if he rocked up to a party of mine, and sure it's a bit weird that he's quite a bit of a lecher (but hardly surprising), but what old man isn't? He just has the charm and the restraint to pull it off.

on the contrary, a Tesla coil is actually fairly safe. You could stand next to it and be safe. http://spacecollective.org/userdata/8C2LJxoF/1209777791/tesla.jpg
My reasoning is superconductors.

Revilo a dit…

Superconductors are all good and well, but if someone gets too close to the discharge point, or doesn't understand the danger of the primary circuit, the person can be in serious trouble.

Playing with Tesla coils is dangerous even for those who are experienced with them, and when you bring human stupidity, amphetamines, alcohol and other assorted drugs and effects, you have one seriously bad idea.
